Public workshops are an opportunity to educate the public about the importance of a General Plan Update; share information and goals with the public; and gather feedback on goals, issues and opportunities. Residents, business owners, property owners, and other community members are encouraged to be active participants in this update process and attend as many outreach events as possible to make sure your voice is heard.
During Phase 1 of the General Plan Update work program, community participants raised a substantial range of issues during the outreach process to help build the physical framework for the General Plan Update. All public input that was received was consolidated and formalized into a Vision Report in order to summarize issues, opportunities and/or concerns. Recording community preferences and putting together the Vision Report required several cycles of community review and discussion.
Based on City Council direction, the city is conducting additional outreach with the community based on a "clean slate" approach - identify locations where future growth may occur (i.e. where will you put housing?). A series of informational open houses and workshops are planned to provide an overview of Housing Element law, regional housing needs, and for workshop participants to identify where future growth should be located in the City. Please attend the May 7 or May 14, 2012 workshops (more information provided below).
There were many events that sought out the participation of residents, business owners, property owners, etc. In addition to the events listed in the process and schedule, the following series of public workshops were held to get feedback visioning or on policy direction:
Additional input was also received from various stakeholder meetings, tool-kit feedback, and the General Plan Advisory Committee. Please review this website for more information on the General Plan Update work program and review the planning process schedule to join us for the next public workshop or outreach event.
